On May 4, to mark the Battle of Prague (which occurred on 6 May 1757) we followed the footsteps (literally!) of Frederik the Great of Prussia before he met his match in Irish Field Marshall Maximilian Ulysses Browne.
In memory of Marshall Browne the present-day Wild Geese started their journey at the chateau where Frederik bivouacked and took the very same path he would have ridden to join his forces at Břevnov Monastery.
We had intended to break the journey at the Větrník restaurant, but unfortunately they were closed to cater for a wedding, and resisted all our cannonless attempts to enter! So we continued on down to the monastery to toast our Wild Goose hero with the beer still brewed by the barefoot monks of St Benedict.
In true Wild Geese fashion the geese present (see photo) represented six nationalities and an age span in excess of 80 years!
