Wild Geese Society

Celebrating our shared Celtic history and culture

Who are the Wild Geese?

In Irish history the term ‘Wild Geese’ is used to describe those involved in the Irish military diaspora, particularly those who went on to serve in European wars. However the term can also be applied to the many Irish emigrants who, for one reason or another, left the ‘sweet shamrock shore’ to adventure in foreign climes. The Wild Geese Society of Czechia explores the impact of the diaspora in its various forms on these lands at the heart of Europe. The Society is inclusive of all nationalities (we are all wild geese!) and in particular welcomes our Czech sisters and brothers with whom we share so much in common, including our Celtic genes.

Mission Statement

The Wild Geese Society of Czechia sets out to bring people together through the exploration and celebration of cultural and historical events throughout the year so that we can learn from the past and learn from each other. Initially we will be focusing on Irish pre-Celtic and post-Celtic influences, including where those have impacted on the Keltic heartlands of Bohemia and Moravia but with the help of all willing wild geese, we will extend that throughout the Celtic world in particular and indeed Europe in general.

How much does it cost?

There is no membership fee. All that is demanded from you is your interest and participation. There is no charge for joining in events organised by the Wild Geese Society. However please note that our partners may charge an entrance fee for certain events (where this is the case, we will do our best to include it in the event listing). You pay for your own travel and refreshments.
